HARRY POTTER!!

Oh I am quite excited for Harry Potter 6! Just saw the final trailer and it looks AMAZING! I love this director and am so excited that he has signed on for these last movies. He did a fantastic job with Order of the Phoenix.
Towards the end of the trailer they show a snippet of the Harry versus Snape duel after Snape goes after Dumbledore. At it looks fantasticly intense. Can't wait!

To Facebook or not to Facebook?

So I have come to this crossroads with Facebook. I have friended people that I am sort of regretting friending. With others I was able to delete and they never seemed the wiser but this time I know it would be obvious. Long story short I was hired by a chiropractor whose wife I adore and I got to know when she came into visit the office. However he has now left to start his own practice and his wife has friended me on Facebook. I am stuck at his old practice with another doctor that I am not the world's biggest fan of while this other doctor is off at a new office. She replied to my status today and I felt that it was super patronizing and now she is sending me messages wanting to know how I survived the new doc. It would have been one thing if she hadn't been patronizing but now I feel like she's just being a gossip.
Technology has its positives and yet its negatives. I love the people that I have been able to reconnect with thanks to this technology but at the same time what do you do with people that you wish you could unfriend???

Overdrive and DVR

I have started using Overdrive for my audio books. Netlibrary has kinda let me down lately so I've branched out. However, I have no idea how to renew on Overdrive. Anyone know the best way to go about doing this? Also I heard that it costs money to add titles to these online audio book sites; is that true? Since LFPL is beyond broke does that mean there will not be new titles added to this site in the near or the way things are going, distant future?

And I just need to praise DVR. With March Madness if full swing my shows have started being interrupted...my least favorite part of March Madness. However, my lovely little DVR recorded my favorite show at 3:00am the other morning when they ran it. Bless you DVR. Only complaint: It wasn't recorded in HD and started a minute late versus starting a few minutes early, which is how we normally program it.
Still, it was nice to be able to watch it. Thanks DVR! And thank you technology!
Here's to hoping LOST is broadcast on time tonight so we can watch it in HD. I am a bit addicted to HD.

McConnell Conference

Well I had a complete and utter geek moment this past weekend when I was in Lexington. I absolutely loved the McConnell conference. Through that experience I learned that I have an addiction to signed copies of books especially first edition signed books! I did refrain somehow from buying absolutely every book I wanted and every single stuffed toy to go with the books. It was hard, no lie.
Listening to authors booktalk their own books was amazing. Both Gary Schmidt and Chris Crutcher were not only hilarious but inspiring at the same time. I honestly loved that I was sitting in a room full of librarians listening to an author talk on a Friday night. Don't think I could have found any better place to be.
So now I have several more titles to add to my "to read" list. Thanks Goodreads.com for keeping track of all those pesky titles I want to read. I would have forgot most of them by now. Goodreads are definitely a librarian's friend. Just remember to update it.

Power and technology

Well so it seems that we really do rely on technology more and more and yet something as simple as ice can take it all away. The great news for libraries is that our numbers go up when the power goes out. Our branch was packed this past week and people looked for places to have meetings, eat their food, read by light and of course check on their facebook status's. But along with the increased people comes increased waiting time for the Internet which equals RAISED TEMPERS. That whole week in September was awful and now without power people do not have heat which makes all of us much crankier, myself included.
So with our increased independence on technology what do we do with the fact that wind or even ice can take it all away?

Very thankful for my power and heat back! No more camping inside.

First blog! whoo-hoo!

Here we are. And now I hit the wall...what to write about, what to write about?!

For all in louisville, make sure you stop by the new chick-fil-a on Shelbyville Road this week. I think they are giving away free breakfasts this week from 7-10 for their grand opening...and if you see an icicle that resembles a person hanging out beside a dancing cow...wave and say hi to Susan! ;-)

Classes have started for the semester. One class is an information technology class for which I had to create this fabulous blog. So as the semester goes along I will be writing on library technologies. Sounds super interesting eh?! Maybe someone at LFPL will read my amazing thought and implement said ideas. Like maybe more than 10 computers at Middletown?! Anyone? Anyone?!

Looking forward to this weekend and the playoffs! GO STEELERS!
