Colors Storytime

Books:
What Color is Your Underwear? by Sam Lloyd

Brown Bear Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Eric Carle

Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh

Flannelboard Activity
Dog's Colorful day by Emma Dodd

My awesome coworker had made this fantastic flannelboard and let me borrow it!  I had a small enough crowd that the kiddos were able to all have a dot to help decorate dog.
Songs:
Baa, Baa Black Sheep with different colors and stick props -Idea from the awesome Mel at Mel's Desk

If You Are Wearing Red (Tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)
If you're wearing red today, red today, red today
If you're wearing red today, please stand up!

Abby at Abby the Librarian suggested when using the different colors to have the kiddos do different activites.  I had a small crowd today so with each color I had the child do a different action like clap their hands, pat their head, etc.

Craft: Rainbow made with fruit loops - lots left over for snacking. :)

Zoo Storytime

I am so ridiculously far behind in posting.  This is actually a current storytime!  Hoping to get around to posting the past 4 months worth.  Sheesh.

Zoo Storytime
Books:
Zoo Ah-Choooo by Peter Mandel and illustrated by Elwood Smith

Dear Zoo by Rod Cambell

My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall

Batty by Sarah Dyer

I wish that I had read Batty instead of Zoo Ah-chooooo!  That book just did not go over well. I kept trying to save it but really, I should have stopped and moved on.  Oh well, lesson learned.

Flannelboard Activity and Song:
The Lions at the Zoo Go Roar, Roar, Roar! (To the tune of Wheels on the Bus)

I had the kiddos help me match up what the animals said before we sang this song.

The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar.
Roar, roar, roar.
Roar, roar, roar.
The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar.
All day long!

The snakes…go hiss, hiss, hiss.
The monkeys…go eee, eee, eee.
The birds…go tweet, tweet, tweet.

Action Rhymes:

Let's hear you roar like a lion!
Let's see you jump like a frog.
Let's see you snap your jaws like a crocodile.
Let's hear you woof like a dog.
Pretend you're an elephant with a big, long trunk.
Pretend you're a monkey; let's see you jump, jump, jump.
And now you're a mouse. Just let me see
How very, very quiet you can be.

An Elephant
An elephant goes like this and that! (stomp your right foot and then left)
He's terribly big and terribly fat! (draw arms out wide)
He has no fingers.  He has no toes. (wiggle fingers and toes)
but goodness gracious, what a nose! (swing your arm like a trunk)

 Songs:
Zoo Animals- (To the tune of:  If you are happy and you know it)

If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!
If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!
If you want to be a monkey, if you want to be a monkey,
If you want to be a monkey, jump up high!
Parrot - flap your wings
Elephant - wing your trunk
Lion - roar out loud
Giraffe - stand up tall
