Mardi Gras Storytime!
I wanted to celebrate Mardi Gras with my kiddos. However, it is so very hard to find books, at least in my library system, that are good books to read aloud for Storytime. So I chose books that had to do with parades and parties. Here is what I came up with:
Books:
Pippa At The Parade by Karen Roosa
There’s a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a firetruck, there’s a firetruck
There’s a firetruck in the middle of the street.
There’s a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a band, there’s a band
There’s a band in the middle of the street.
There’s a clown and a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a clown and a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a clown, there’s a clown,
There’s a clown in the middle of the street.
There’s a mask and a clown and a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a mask and a clown and a band and a firetruck in the middle of the street
There’s a mask, there’s a mask,
There’s a mask in the middle of the street.
It’s a parade!
Craft:
Masks - The kids got to decorate their own masks and eat cupcakes! It was a party. :)
Books:
Pippa At The Parade by Karen Roosa
Snappy Sounds Surprise Party
Parade by Donald Crews (for Toddler Time only)
I Want a Party by Tony Ross (for Preschool only)
Songs:
Wheels on the Float
I basically had them help me make up a song. I started the first verse and then they had to come up with more verses. This is dangerous however because sometimes, it is hard to put their suggestions into the song. One suggestion was throwing something from the float and I had no idea what the sound would have been. So fun!
Flannelboard:
Thanks to Mel at Mel's Desk for the suggestion of the Flannelboard.
I took the song "Hole in the Middle of the Street" and made it Mardi Gras-esque. (also, I did not really know this tune and I had a hard time finding a good version on YouTube so basically I made it up.)
There’s a firetruck in the middle of the street

This was such a fun Storytime! Mrs. Jackie is the BEST! ;)
ReplyDeleteTry looking on youtube for The Green Grass Grows All Around. I think that may be the song they are referring to.
